Transportation

Transportation for Pre-K Students 

Leon County Schools provides transportation services for eligible Pre-K students based on age, program participation, and school zoning. Transportation supports access to early learning while ensuring student safety and consistency. 

 

Who Is Eligible for Transportation? 

Home-Zone PK Students 

Transportation is available for PK students who are assigned to their home-zone school through the VPK First lottery. 

This applies to: 

  • VPK First (half-day program) -am pick up only.  The buses do not run when VPK ends at 11:30am. 

  • VPK All Day (Title I schools) 

  • Wrap Services (non–Title I schools)* 
    *Transportation is available only if the child is assigned to their home-zone school. 

 

PK Students with Disabilities (IDEA Eligibility) 

PK ESE students who qualify under IDEA may receive transportation as a related service, based on the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). 

Examples of qualifying situations include: 

  • Physical or developmental needs requiring transportation 

  • Safety considerations determined by the IEP team 

  • Specialized supports (car seats, harnesses, etc.) 

 

Who Is Not Eligible for Transportation? 

Transportation is not provided for: 

  • VPK students attending a school outside their home-zone 

 

How Transportation Works 

Eligible PK students may be transported: 

  • On modified or specialized routes, if required by an IEP 

 

Safety protocols for PK students include: 

  • Assigned seating 

  • Use of age-appropriate restraints when required 

  • Bus drivers and assistants trained to support early learners
